Today we arrived at the creche around 8:30 and stayed until 2. It was long and exhausting! It's also already a blur. My mind is whirling from all that happened and my heart is struggling with various emotions taking place. This is definitely more of a mental and emotional battle, if you will, than I ever anticipated.
We took some new toys and brought back some from the day before. B was full of energy to start. We threw a baseball, she has an arm; we danced and then she ran off!!! It was only 930 and she was eating. It didn't look like breakfast, but 9:30 seemed early for lunch. Not sure. I kept dancing with many of the older kids. It was so much fun and great exercise. They have moves and attitudes! They also have some great teachers there whom they respect and have a lot of fun with. That is so good to see. I love that despite the situation some of these older kids have found themselves in, they do have some good role models.
When B returned we tried to start coloring. Kids from everywhere started showing up. I thought sure, let's include them. So Qade tore out pages from a coloring book and started handing them out. Well he got swarmed and the ten markers I had disappeared. B wasn't too thrilled to be sharing or be swarmed by everyone. She put her coloring stuff away and sat between Qade and I watching videos on my phone. With the dancing music in the background it was tough to talk to her or communicate well at all. Jason started making paper footballs and the kids seemed to calm a bit. After awhile the kids were called away and B looked beat. She wasn't sure what she wanted. I picked her up and held her for quite some time. She almost fell asleep. Then, a second wind came and she was teasing Qade and coloring some more. I can't wait to share the videos of her sneaking up on Qade to tickle him and then he chases her while she screams!
Finally our ride arrived and we returned to the guest house for lunch. Pizza, from a restaurant. Yummy!
We did go back for two more hours but it was quite calm. We played with the kickball, including a couple of boys that B didn't seem to mind sharing with. We raced cars, did more bubbles and lots more laughter. We also did some flash cards of shapes that I had found at the guest house. She knew many, some in English and said them all aloud. That was the most I had really heard her speak aloud and directly. It was a great connecting point. We ended our time with ABC games on my phone but eventually I walked her to her room and said good bye.
It was a really good day, just long.
Fun Facts:
A rooster crows all day but is most annoying at 3 am! Maybe he's blind?!
We've had ice cream twice for dessert and it's more like a milkshake when it arrives in its container.
We're SPOILED at the guest house with incredible meals and the best Coke & 7UP I've ever tasted. It's made with real sugar here!
OH - PRAISE GOD! So far my stomach has been able to handle everything I've eaten. It's quite humbling and exciting to enjoy it all while I'm here. Only down side, I won't be losing any weight...probably gaining! :)
