EXHAUSTING!!! We had an early flight and got maybe 2.5 hours of sleep. I was able to sleep some on the way there and on the flights. All went smooth until we got to Port au Prince. We waited and waited and waited for our ride. It was hot. We were hungry. And the guys at the airport were a little pushy on wanting to 'help'. After standing for well over an hour, probably almost two, I sat down and started dozing off. Qade did the same. I'm not sure how long we waited, maybe 2.5 hours. Finally, the paper sign with OUR name! We loaded up and were on our way. A looong way. I dozed off a few times but tried to take in the 'sights' in between. Lots of people everywhere doing lots of stuff. It started to rain, then storm and it cooled the air a tiny bit. We arrived at the guest house around 4ish. Met our lovely caretakers for the next 2.5 weeks and were taken to our rooms. I laid down and started to doze again. Dinner was supposed to be at 5, but we ate around 630. Sounds common here. Dinner was good. Spaghetti, potatoes, salad, sauce and a muffin. I decided I'd try to enjoy the food here and ignore the gluten aspect a little. I'll let you know tomorrow if that was a good idea or not.
After dinner we retreated back upstairs to our rooms. By the way, there's AC that turns on in the evenings only but not like AC at home. It runs slow and can't keep up at all. It's HOT in the upstairs rooms, but I'm sure we will adjust. I laid down again and fell asleep. I guess the day of travel was just too much for me! I'm sure the ball of emotions sitting inside is contributing as well. Around 845 I rose and brushed my teeth. I only tell you that because here brushing your teeth takes a bit more effort. You do not want the water here to get into your mouth! Not a big deal though and truly makes you appreciate the little things at home.
We're now ready for bed and I'm super excited to meet our little girl tomorrow. I'm trying not to have expectations to protect my heart a bit. I'm not feeling the greatest, am 'pms'ing (sorry men), and emotions from waiting for 4.5 years are about to burst!!! God is so good to us! I'm so grateful for all of you that have prayed diligently and even given support financially to bring this little girl home.
Good night now! Here's to tomorrow...a day I sometimes doubted would ever come.
